007 First Light Review
Finished 007 First Light. Good game, not the best game, but good.
Best part: the grounded stuff. Walking around MI6, the Q lab, exploring your own flat, piecing clues together. Pulled me into the mystery more than any of the action did. The Hitman-style missions were great too. Wish they’d leaned into it even more, actual travel, meeting handlers, working your way into an organization from the inside.
Story and characters are solid, no idea where it’s going until close to the end. Bond’s a great lead, good supporting cast, and a villain I properly hated in the best way. Ending fizzles a bit though, not enough stakes by the close.
Gameplay’s mixed. Hand-to-hand combat is the standout. They give you a pile of tactical options, disarms, leg shots, you never need because headshots just work. Stealth is stealth, never great in any game. Driving felt stiff and disconnected.
Not open world, which I liked, but the semi-open sections drag. One stretch grinding money for an auction went on way too long. Some boss fights too. Hints are inconsistent, don’t need hand-holding, but got stuck for no good reason more than once.
Presentation’s solid: nice landscapes, strong voice acting, genuinely great soundtrack with its own Bond-style opening theme. Did James Bond proud.
8.5/10. If you like single-player story games or Bond films, play this. Basically a playable Bond movie.
